SNAP Scare 2025
In November, SNAP was on everyone’s mind as the government shutdown interrupted this important resource for needy families. Feed My Sheep received a lot of questions about how that impacted our program. In case you were wondering, but didn’t have the chance to ask, about 45% of Feed My Sheep’s households are enrolled in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and many have seen their benefits drop by as much as $200 per month since July 2025. Attendance at our mobile food pantries has jumped from around 320 families per week to over 470 while SNAP benefits were delayed.
In response, many donors stepped in to help Feed My Sheep meet the increased demand. We wish to thank Maui Impact Fund for contributing $20,000 to address this critical need alongside several private donors offering thousands in additional support. These donations went directly to the purchase of additional produce which supported local farmers still facing setbacks from the 2023 wildfires.
Attendance at Feed My Sheep distributions has stabilized now that SNAP is functioning again, but demand remains high.
